Though the Castithan culture is governed by an inflexible caste system, through the disorienting egress from the Votanis system, Datak Tarr has managed to secure himself a position of authority that he would never have been able to achieve on his homeworld of Casti. The husband of a proper, aristocratic Castithan woman, and the ringleader of Defiance’s shadier dealings, Datak embodies the notion that the ends justify the means. The most populous of the Votan races on earth, Irathients have typically been solitary homesteaders on the terraformed frontier. Irisa, however, breaks the mold as the adopted daughter of a human veteran of the the Pale Wars. Adrift between her heritage and the world in which she was raised, Irisa is a headstrong, conflicted, and entirely badass young woman, and there is no one more adept with a knife and a cutting glare in all of this brave new earth. While her unique upbringing invites stares and an air of novelty, Irisa is far more than the sum of her parts. And if the Irathient mystics have their way, Irisa may end up having a larger role to play than anyone could have anticipated. Share this one proudly. It’s from our friends at SyFy.
